December Article 2004

Valued Members of Local One Union,

We at local one would like to wish all of our brothers and sisters a very safe and happy holiday season to you and your family. Also take a minute to reflect on all the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan that cannot be with their families. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them and we hope they all return home soon.

The union put together a committee to update our constitution and by-laws. This was a very difficult task at hand since our by-laws have not been updated since 1975. Thanks to the help of our Local One attorney Mr. Markowitz any legal issues at task due to new labor laws and court rulings were amended. The committee took ideas and suggestions from the membership and have what we believe is an updated constitution & by-laws that our members will be pleased with. We at local one would like to thank the committee for a job well done.

The committee consists of:  Kevin Berry, Michael Bruce, William T. Bulger Jr., James Dolan, Michael Duffy, Michael Gleason, Raymond Haines, Michael Halpin, Daniel J. Mckay, Jr., Dennis J. O'Neill and Michael J. Reilly.

This committee would like to extend our appreciation to Brother Anthony Carudo who was always available to us and who always stayed with us when we met. We would not have been able to accomplish this task without his help.

Thank You

I would like to read this letter -

After 25 years in this union I have retired due to heath reasons. As I retire I would like to say thank you to the brothers that went the extra mile to show what it means to be “a brother to a brother”. My wife is severely handicapped and for the last 2 years has been limited to the house. I had reached out to brother Hernandez about installing an elevator in my home. True to his word he organized two crews. The first crew led by Brother Ed Krull, Bill Rizzo Joe DeRiggi and Joe Isagar dismantled an elevator out of a south NJ house and delivered it to Long Island where the second crew of brothers organized by brother Bob Stork, Steve Mazza, Tommy Bues & Tommy Curran installed it in my home. This was all done on there own time. The smile that is now on my wife’s face is priceless, now that she is not trapped in the house. I would like to thank retired brother Debillis for lending a hand, and a special thank you to Peggy Bender who helped organize this effort. Thank you all for helping to make retirement with my wife a lot more enjoyable.

Dennis Donaghy (Bomber)

Brother Jimmy Castle and his family would like to thank all the Brothers and Sisters who participated in the Diane Castle memorial golf outing.  In total, $16,000 was raised for the Kaleidoscope of Hope Foundation and their fight against ovarian cancer. Again, the family cannot thank you enough, and they look forward to seeing you again at next years outing. Information will be posted in the journal.

Congratulations

We would like to Congratulate Peter Gitto, age 17 for earning his Eagle Scout pin. We know his parents Brother Greg and JoAnn Gitto are very proud of his accomplishment.
